How to get into your phone if you forgot my PIN or Password?

23.12.2020/0 Comments/in Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

People forget things. It happens. Maybe you set the phone up and placed it down to process any and all updates it has to go through, or charge up to full capacity, and came back to a locked screen and a vague memory of the super-secure PIN you used to protect it.

Hoping you have a Samsung

One of the best thing about most modern smartphones is that they’re fairly difficult to break into—if you’ve taken the time to really lock them down. In fact, if someone attempts to guess their way past your password or PIN code, they’re usually stymied with a forced delay after a number of failed attempts. And once they hit a magical number of incorrect guesses, usually 10, a number of phones can automatically nuke themselves. In other words, the phone will wipe-and-reset itself under the assumption that you, the owner, couldn’t have forgotten your password that hard.

In this case, your phone is safely in your control; you just can’t get into it. You can’t enter supplemental information about yourself to authenticate as you. In fact, the best you get in these situations is a prompt for your secondary authentication method (a PIN or password) if, for example, your device’s biometrics fail to recognize that you’re you.

Again, this is a good thing, because if someone was able to get their hands on your device, all they might need is a little information about you—for example, your birthday and your primary email address—to slip past your lock screen.

However: If you have a Samsung that you already associated with a Samsung ID, you can use the company’s “Find My Mobile” feature to unlock your phone via the web.

How to factory reset your Android

Generally speaking, you’ll want to boot into your phone’s Recovery menu, which will require you to hold some combination of the volume and power buttons. I can’t tell you what these are, exactly, as the can vary by device and manufacturer. Do a quick web search for your phone’s model and “recovery mode,” and you’ll find the answers. Eventually, you’ll reset your phone and make it to a scary-looking screen—something that looks very, very different than the Android operating system you’re used to.

What if you’re a forgetful Apple fan?

For those of you with an iPhone, the process is generally the same: You’ll have to reset your iPhone and start anew or restore it from a backup if you forget your PIN. Apple doesn’t provide a way to unlock your iPhone remotely via Find My.

How we’ll get Apple and Google’s contact tracing update

01.10.2020/0 Comments/in Apple news, Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

Google say everyone will get access to the framework for tracking tools. Regardless of which version of iOS or Google’s Android they use ❗

🤝 Apple and Google are working together on a major effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. That uses signals from people’s phones to warn them if they’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive for the disease.

The joint project takes advantage of two of the world’s most popular operating systems. Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android — to potentially reach billions of people. The tools will use Bluetooth radio technology to support apps that will be developed by public health authorities.

Pushing out updates to Android is notoriously challenging.

👉 That’s because Android operates on devices made by a variety of manufacturers, who have to test updates to make sure they work. The cumbersome process has led to a challenge known as fragmentation. With Android users running different flavors of the OS that have varying capabilities. Apple’s update process is a whole lot simpler. But even the iPhone maker doesn’t have 100% of its users on the most recent version of iOS.

For Google, the update to enable the tracking tools won’t be like a normal operating system upgrade. It will instead come through a set of tools called Google Play Services. And this lets Android sidestep some fragmentation issues by pushing updates directly, without the approval of device and wireless partners. The company normally uses Google Play Services to update its own apps, like Gmail and Maps, and to push changes like a new app icon. The contact tracing tools will be available for phones running software as old as Android Marshmallow, the version of the operating system released in 2015.

✔️ “Given the critical nature of this update, I appreciate Google using the Google Play services rather than relying on users to download the update,” Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi said.

It likely will be easier for Apple to roll out an iOS update to all of its users at once than it is for Google. Because Apple controls the hardware, software and services on iPhones. And it’s able to make sure updates work across its newer devices and roll it out to all devices at once.

10 Plus vs. Note 9

Want the best Android phone with a stylus?

20.09.2020/0 Comments/in Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

Want the best Android phone with a stylus? That’s the Samsung Galaxy Note. If a Note 20 Ultra’s not in the budget, let’s take a look at the Note 10 Plus or the less expensive Note 9.

The Galaxy Note 10 Plus was the best Galaxy phone in years when it launched. Even edging out the latest Galaxy S20 Ultra in some areas. We thought it would be a great time to compare the Note 10 to the Note 9 to see how they hold up against each other.

You can currently find the Note 10 Plus for about $1,100 new. But if your budget doesn’t stretch that far and you still want a Galaxy phone that offers top performance, a stylus and all-day battery life, the previous year’s Note 9 might be enough.

Galaxy Note 10 Plus

Want the best that Android has to offer? You’ll find almost everything you want in this phone – except a headphone jack. The Note 10 Plus has an excellent 6.8-inch screen, expandable storage and a wide-angle camera. There’s also a 5G version available. Of course, this is still an expensive phone but its performance and all-day battery life may justify the cost.

Galaxy Note 9

The Galaxy Note 9 is still an excellent buy, especially if you value some of the hardware options it has over the Note 10 Plus, such as a headphone jack and iris scanner. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the newer phone. The screen still looks great and the cameras perform well. The price also been marked down from its original release price, so it’s a much better deal.

Design cues

The Note 9 has some other design cues that are absent from the more expensive phone. Such as the notification light and a fingerprint scanner at the back. The Note 10 Plus has an in-screen fingerprint scanner and we found it to be very responsive.
The way you turn off the phone is slightly different on both: with the Note 9 the power button is on the right while the Note 10 Plus has a remappable button and the volume rocker to the left of the screen.
When it comes to display quality, both phones are excellent. The Note 10 Plus gives you more screen real estate (even though the overall dimensions are similar to the Note 9).
The Note 9 is a little easier to use one-handed as it’s a tiny bit narrower than the Note 10 Plus but I preferred the newer phone for when I was able to use it with both hands: kicking back watching videos or using the S Pen.
The material finish on the Note 10 Plus looks fabulous but it is a fingerprint magnet. As soon as I took it out of the box, I’d smudged up the back.
Then again, you may not need to use a case because the Note 10 Plus uses Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back to protect against drops. The Note 9 uses the previous generation Gorilla Glass 5.

More S Pen tricks

One reason to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note phone is because of the stylus. I didn’t find there was much difference between the sensitivity and accuracy of the S Pen on the Note 10 Plus compared to the Note 9. Although you do get a couple additional features if you go for the newer phone.
Air gestures let you control some apps (like the camera or YouTube) by pressing the S Pen button. Also moving the stylus side to side, up and down or even in a circle.

You can also use the Note 10 Plus to transcribe your handwriting from the S Pen automatically.
The Note 9 doesn’t have air gestures, but it does have Bluetooth so you can use it as a remote to take photos. Also customize it further for some other apps like the Gallery in the settings menu.

Still has great battery life and performance

Both these phones are absolute beasts when it comes to performance.
Your mileage will vary when it comes to battery life and a lot does come down to how you use your phone.

But for regularusage, which generally included watching videos, making a few calls, using maps, recording 4K video and editing photos, I was able to get through an entire day with anywhere between 15% to 25% battery remaining on both the Note 9 and Note 10 Plus. The Note 10 Plus does have a slightly higher capacity battery and the option of a 45-watt charger (which costs extra) for even faster charging.

So which Galaxy Note phone should you buy?

The Galaxy Note is Samsung’s flagship phone for a reason. Both the Note 10 Plus and Note 9 are great devices that promise to give you a fantastic Android experience — especially because the older phone has received software updates to make it look and feel a lot like the newer Note. But bear in mind that the Note 9 might not get as many updates going forward.

How much does Samsung Access cost?

💰 At launch, a three-month subscription costs $37 per month for the Samsung Galaxy S20, $42 per month for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, and $48 per month for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

5 photo-editing apps you have to try if you love photography

25.06.2020/0 Comments/in Homy news, iPhone products, Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

Not only can you photograph with your smartphone, but you can also download countless great photo editing apps. These best photo editing apps will help edit the images into something spectacular.

There are a ton of free and paid photo apps available now from the basic camera and sharing tools to full-featured photo editing apps that let you shoot, edit, and organize images better on your mobile phones.

You can also check out these creative ideas to flex your photography muscles at home if you want to shoot and edit something new.

Adobe Photoshop Express

adobe-photoshop

Free on iOS and Android.

Photoshop Express has many of the same features you’d find in Lightroom, including exposure, contrast and color editing options, but strips out some of the pro tools and cloud syncing and, crucially, ditches the subscription fee. It’s a great tool for tweaking your images to bring out their best, but you’ll also find a decent selection of filters and overlay textures, as well as tools for making cool collages from your images.

Bazaart

bazaart

iOS only, $7.99 a month or $48 a year.

Bazaart’s montage and collage tools let you combine multiple different elements — from photos, to text, to graphics — and layer them all up to create a finished work of art. It has tools that let you instantly erase the background from behind a portrait subject in order to put in a new background or layer up multiple effects. It also has a huge variety of templates to create gorgeous collages for Instagram stories too.

Lightroom

Light room

iOS and Android, some functions available for free, or $4.99 per month for full access.

Adobe Lightroom remains an industry standard for professional photographers and the mobile version is much the same. You’ll find no stickers, animations or emoji here, but you will get fine grain control over your image and the same set of tools you’d find in Lightroom on desktop. It’s the app I use the most to edit my own images on my iPhone and iPad, not least because the images sync in the cloud, letting me start on one device, and continue on another.

Snapseed

snapseed

Free on iOS and Android.

Google-owned Snapseed offers a wide range of exposure and color tools to make tweaks to your images, but also has plenty of filter options, from vintage styles to modern, punchy HDR looks. You can layer the effects up to create some interesting edits on your image. And best of all, it’s totally free.

VSCO

vsco

iOS and Android, limited functions for free, or $19.99 a year with seven-day free trial.

VSCO began life making color grading presets for Lightroom and its roots are clear in the app today. Rather than offer stickers and animated GIFs for Snapchat enthusiasts, VSCO is all about the more artful filmic color filters. The app has a huge range of presets available, including looks designed to emulate classic rolls of film from Fujifilm, Kodak and Ilford.

It’s got a great selection of black-and-white filters too, making it a great choice to experiment with if you’re into your moody monochrome shots.

Hidden Google Maps tricks to learn

18.06.2020/0 Comments/in Homy news, iPhone products, Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

☝️ These tips for Google Maps are helpful when you need to find a parking spot in a hurry or if you get lost.

You probably know that with the Google Maps app, you can save addresses, like for work and home, so with a tap you can get directions to the places you travel to frequently. You can also get information about a place — including what to eat, where to stay and what you can do there — to help you make the most of a trip.

Go off the grid with Incognito Mode

🗺️ A feature for Android and now iPhone users lets you go Incognito while using Google Maps. This means you can hide your location from other Maps users, as well as locations you’ve searched for. So if you’re trying to surprise your significant other, this is what you’ll need to do.

Tap your profile icon in the top right corner and select – Turn on Incognito Mode. When you’re ready to turn the setting off, follow the same steps and select – Turn off Incognito Mode.

Plan the route of your entire trip, including stops

🛑 If Google says your trip will take seven hours but it ends up being eight, it may be because you didn’t include your multiple stops along the way. Google Maps lets you add stops so you can get a more accurate destination time.

  • 1️⃣ In the Google Maps app, enter your first destination, like a gas station or coffee shop.
  • 2️⃣ Tap Directions.
  • 3️⃣ Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  • 4️⃣ Tap Add stop. Add as many stops as you anticipate taking.
  • 5️⃣ Press Done when you’re finished adding stops. Now you’ll get a more accurate ETA when planning trips.

See what a place looks like before you go

🏠 Pictures can be deceiving, so before you book a hotel that looks nice, check it out on Google Maps first.

  • 1️⃣  In the Google Maps app, search for a location, like a hotel you’re considering staying at.
  • 2️⃣ In the bottom left corner, you’ll notice a small box with a photo of the building. This is the street view of the area, so tap it to see what it looks like.
  • 3️⃣ You can zoom in and out and check out the area by swiping your finger across the screen.

Use Maps offline

📴 It never fails. When you need directions the most, your phone loses signal at the most inopportune time. Fortunately, Google Maps lets you download your route ahead of time so that you never have to worry about getting lost.

  • 1️⃣ In the Google Maps app, enter your destination.
  • 2️⃣ At the bottom of the screen tap the name of the place or the address.
  • 3️⃣ Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  • 4️⃣ Tap Download offline map.
  • 5️⃣ Tap Download. The map for the area you’ve selected will now be available to you offline.

apple music

Join Apple Music on Android

29.05.2020/0 Comments/in Homy news, Samsung news /by Екатерина Маслак

🎶 Before smartphones were as capable as they are today, many of us listened to music on iPods, and built up sizable music collections in the process. We found the best methods for switching to Android, including how to use the official Apple Music app to access your iTunes library.

1️⃣ iTunes and Android: Synchronize with doubleTwist

💵 With the free Windows program and the Android app doubleTwist, you can easily synchronize your iTunes library with Android. First, download the program for your PC from the doubleTwist homepage and install it. Then grab your Android smartphone and download the doubleTwist app from the Google Play Store.

The doubleTwist app for Android is available free of charge or as a pro version. The latter offers some special features that are not necessary for the synchronization between iTunes and Android.
Now launch doubleTwist on your computer. You have a choice on whether you want your Android smartphone to sync with iTunes via USB or AirSync. I recommend the USB method.

2️⃣ iTunes to Android via USB

If you don’t want to rely on a third-party app to use iTunes with your Android phone, then you can manually transfer the files to your device. This method is simple and efficient, but, as above, is limited by the available storage on your device or its mircoSD card.
❕ Connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable. Open Windows Explorer, and locate the iTunes folder on your computer. Drag and drop it into your device’s music folder to copy the files onto your phone. The music will be visible in your chosen music player app once the transfer is complete.

3️⃣ Use Apple Music for Android

Apple usually doesn’t make apps for Android. But in an effort to keep iTunes customers who wisely made the switch to Android, Apple made the Apple Music for Android app. It has its flaws, but it’s the official way to listen to your iTunes music on Android.
Because it is an Apple service you will need an Apple ID to use it. You should already have one since you have iTunes music. ☑️ Make sure you retrieve your account if you can’t find the information and consider contacting customer support if you are still unable to access it.
The Apple Music app gives you the same features as iTunes, with recommendations for you from a 30 million song catalog. You can keep all of the playlists you made when you used iOS and transferring is fairly simple. It is a streaming service (like Spotify) that requires a subscription, but the first three months are free.
